Subfloor Preparation

The base on which a new floor covering is fitted is known as a subfloor. Depending upon the age of the building typical types are concrete, sand/cement, floorboards over joists, sheet material (plywood, MDF, chipboard) over joists or even a combination of all of these, particularly where later additions or extensions have been added. The quality and condition of the subfloor has a direct impact on the integrity of the flooring installation and of course the appearance of the finished article.

At estimate stage we can provide advice on new subfloors and any preparation required. With existing floors, where floor coverings are in place, it may be difficult or even impossible to assess the condition of the subfloor and any necessary remedial work required. The first point at which an assessment may be made in these circumstances is when the existing material is uplifted as part of the new installation.

In order to avoid any misunderstanding in the event that additional work is necessary, an estimate of costs will be prepared and an agreement reached prior to the commencement of work.
